Whether you’ve only visited Bellingham once or you’ve already lived here for awhile, you’ve probably noticed that Bellingham has a thriving art scene! We interviewed Michelle Dooley, a local artist and creator of the Bellingham Artists Social Club how someone could get involved with Bellingham’s art scene.
Tip #1: Join Bellingham Artists Social Club
“I am delighted to inform the world of Bellingham’s exploding art scene. Artists from all walks of life congregate here,” Michelle shared. “Recently, I created a free and open meet-up group called Bellingham Artists Social Club that meets at the amazing new Connections Room at the Community Food Co-op. All ages are welcome and donations go directly to the co-op. Join us on Facebook for meet-up times and dates.”
Move to Bellingham creator, Marie Bjornson, is a real estate matchmaker. After 15 years as a mortgage professional in Bellingham, she knows just about every good real estate agent out there. Looking for a perfect realtor for your situation? Most realtors have different strengths. Marie would be happy to match you to a local agent that is a perfect fit—at not cost to you!

Tip #2: Check out Bellingham’s Art Walk on the first Friday of each month
Michelle also recommends exploring Bellingham’s Art Walk: “Click and print this link. This tip is good for the artist and art lover alike—this is the key to Bellingham’s finest studios and galleries. I suggest taking it slow, one month at a time, pick out a section of town and explore, then, the following first Friday of the month, chose a new neighborhood. Art adventures abound!” It’s a great way to not only get to know the many artists and work being created in Bellingham, but it’ll also show you new nooks and crannies around town!
Tip #3: Find a new favorite studio and gallery to follow and get involved with.
“If you’re looking to get more involved, check out the Allied Arts at 1418 Cornwall Ave and the Whatcom Arts Market at 1103 11th St. To see what is hot at the moment, be sure to mark the Pegasus Gallery on your map (#10) and while you’re there, be sure to wander upstairs and stop in at Bay Street Studios, a non-profit studio begun by Pat Fisher and shared by six artist including myself! Come say hi!”
Thank you for these excellent recommendations, Michelle!
