If you’d like to enjoy the outdoors but don’t want to journey far, Harriet Spanel Park and Rock Hill Park are lovely destinations for a play date or a picnic. Access to Bellingham’s many trails are within reach as well, making it easy to head out for a day of exploring or traveling from neighborhood to neighborhood. Locals all recommend stopping by Nelson’s Market and Marlins Cafe.

WWU being nearby gives residents quick access to all the university has to offer, including a large array of restaurants and services. Downtown’s bustling nightlife is also nearby, only a few short blocks through the friendly neighborhood. Fred Meyer, Whole Foods, and Grocery Outlet are all close by as well, making it easy to go grocery shopping.

“York is a fun, affordable neighborhood. Rather than lots of landscaping, half the time you'll see greenhouses and huge gardens. Well-used outdoor spaces are common here, and tire swings frequent the neighborhood. With various alleyways, the older neighborhood feels a lot closer and more homey than some others, and is pedestrian friendly. Besides the fun community market, Nelson's, there isn't much IN the neighborhood besides trails and a few cute parks. However, Samish, Lakeway Center, and the downtown center surround the neighborhood, so a brief walk gets you wherever you'd like to be.”

Holly, Bellingham Resident

“It is one of Bellingham's classic old neighborhoods that is just blocks away from downtown and is centrally located to easily head east, west, north, or south to enjoy the rest B'ham has to offer. It is such an easy walk to downtown to enjoy the restaurants, micro breweries... shopping...etc.”
